Animacy, in perception, is the impression that a moving shape is alive. Here, a Transformer of 0.8 million parameters predicts each next step from the steps before it. It learned from 112 hours of zebrafish and medaka tracked with idtracker.ai, and runs in your browser. School shows 2 seconds of a recorded group of medaka, then continues it with fish that see one another. A single drawn fish also sees the mouse pointer and drifts toward it while it rests. The model never sees the rocks, the food or the predator: each move is chosen among moves it proposes, by rules taken from studies of real fish.
