Philosophical Search

Type a philosophical question to read passages from philosophers and encyclopedias that help you think it through.

How it works

The 524 passages come from 90 works: books from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks and Wikisource, Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entries and Wikipedia articles. Claude selected them and wrote the questions each one helps think through, and two independent reviews checked every choice.

Your browser encodes your question with jina-embeddings-v5-text-nano-retrieval (opens in a new tab) (CC BY-NC 4.0), quantized to 4 bits with its vocabulary cut to English and French, and ranks the passages by similarity to their embeddings, computed in advance by the same model. A search takes about 50 ms on a $350 GPU. Your question never leaves your device.

Each passage links to its source. Wikipedia text is under CC BY-SA 4.0 (opens in a new tab). Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entries are copyrighted by their authors.
